Broker, Northern Sunshine Coast

Jeane Hofmeyr

A broker who's lived and worked across more countries than most, now helping people settle into life, property, and lending in Australia, in English or in Afrikaans.

From pharmacy counters to mortgage files

Before the servicing calculators and the loan structures, I was a pharmacist. That was back in South Africa, where I'm originally from, before my husband's work as an accountant took us travelling, moving between countries as new postings came up. It's not the usual path into mortgage broking, but it turned out to be exactly the right preparation for it.

When we finally settled in Australia, I went looking for the next chapter, and mortgage broking is where I landed. I've been a broker since 2022, and everything I learned building a life across borders, currencies, and unfamiliar systems is exactly what I bring to clients doing the same thing now.

A property journey that spans the world

My own property story doesn't look like most people's. It spans several countries rather than just Australia, which means I understand what it actually takes to build a financial life somewhere new, more than once over. That's part of why helping expats settle into Australia has become one of my specialties, alongside the full range of what we do at The Broker Society.

I know what it's like to be the newcomer trying to work out how a new country's lending system actually operates, because I've been that person myself. For clients who'd simply rather have that conversation in their first language, I also offer appointments in Afrikaans.

Part of a wider team

I cover the Northern Sunshine Coast, but I'm one of five brokers at The Broker Society, several of us business owners in our own right, all bringing something different to the table. Whoever you end up speaking with, you're getting someone who genuinely understands where you're coming from.

Runner, beach person, mum to twins

Away from work I'm mum to twins, and you'll usually find me either out running or down at the beach, often both in the same morning. Fitness has always been how I keep my head clear, and after years of moving around the world, having a beach nearby to run along still feels like a small luxury I don't take for granted.
